Join NCI

New states are welcome to join NCI at any time. At the beginning of each state fiscal year, NASDDDS issues a formal invitation for member states to join NCI (or to indicate continued participation) for the next “phase” of data collection. Phases run from July 1 to June 30. The documents below provide basic information about participation in NCI.

Basic Information About Participation in NCI

New State Introduction to NCI
This chapter is a general introduction to the National Core Indicators and outlines considerations for participating states.

NCI Basics
This document summarizes the basic data collection requirements (sample size, timeframe, etc.) for each component of NCI.

Memo of Agreement
This memo sets forth the responsibilities of NASDDDS, HSRI, and the Participating States.

First Year Workplan
This document is to be filled out by new states and submitted to HSRI. The document walks through the different components of NCI and asks new states to indicate which portions will be completed in the first year and how the process will be conducted.
